*Flashback scene pre-AOTC* Secrets revealed and Irony Discovered.

Sabe felt her heart slip to her throat as she returned to the handmaiden’s quarters only to find Sache looking rather intrigued as she studied the elegant Katana that normally rested on her hip. IT wasn’t so much the fact her friend was eyeing the sheathed blade but rather the worn out ribbon that rested on its hilt. For all intents and purposes the ribbon was quite a colourful but poignant choice of décor but upon closer examination it reveals evident signs of wear as the ribbons are literally worn to threads in some places and quite frayed at the end. Yet in doing so it had only served to expose its true secret through the frizzy blonde bits of braid that is peeking out from beneath. To which Sabe prayed Sache wouldn’t pick up on but knew by the look on her face she had just done so.

“Sache what are you doing with my sword?”

She moved promptly to grab it but the fellow handmaiden was far swifter and soon was clutching the blade close to her and grinning wickedly.

“Nevermind what I was doing, I want to know what you’re up too! Come on now Sabe what’s the real story behind this raggedy hair extension?”

She said twirling the ribbon as Sabe’s cheeks lit up on fire.

“Oh and don’t bother trying the line it’s too long a story for me to find out or whatever such nonsense I’m sure you’re going to try and come out with. Cause I have all day if necessary.”

Sabe was suddenly thankful that Sache was alone. Dealing with her teasing was bad enough without having her other sisters around to worsen this already embarrassing moment.

“It’s a good-luck charm alright? It calms me nothing more, nothing less.”

Sache raised a brow as she stepped back to Sabe’s attempt to grab the sheathed weapon once more.

“You’re a terrible liar and you know it. Heaven’s only know how you found yourself a position in intelligence. Now let’s try this again.

An age old hair extension that should have been tossed years ago finds its way into the weavings of your blades charms and you expect me to believe it’s just a lucky charm? Come now what sort of fool do you think I am? While the others may believe it’s just blonde because it’s been washed too many times but me…I know how these things are.”

“Do you.”

Sabe said in carefully neutral tones as she could though she was certain her glowing cheeks were a dead give away to her real thoughts. Sache instantly pick up on this and crowed in triumph.

“I knew it!! You do have a sweetheart!!!”

Sache grinned as she stepped closer but was still careful to leave the blade out of Sabe’s reach.

“So who is it? Come on you can tell me!”

Sabe rolled her eyes deciding against attempting to wrestle the blade from Sache knowing how pointless that was certain to be. Folding her arms she also surmised she may as well admit the truth while she could lest her friend nag her until the end of time.

“It was a gift from a friend.”

Sache raised a brow curiously before making a face.

“A braid of hair? What kind of gift is that? Talk about arrogant.”

Instantly Sabe was on edge feeling the need to defend Obi-Wan’s good name as she quickly retorted.

“It’s not like that.”

“Seriously, Sabe why a braid of hair?”

“It’s more then just a braid of hair Sache. It’s a Jedi Padawan’s braid.”

She blanched realizing her mistake instantly as Sache’s expression carried the evident shock that now poured off of her in waves.

“…A Jedi gave this to you? But I thought they weren’t permitted to have attachments?”

More agitation edged Sabe’s thoughts but she bit her lip knowing that Sache wouldn’t understand as she had not been witness

“They don’t, and he doesn’t. It was a gesture of respect and friendship nothing more.”

“Nothing more indeed. Then why is it you almost had a heart attack when you thought Eirtae threw it out? Nevermind the fact you have it tied to your blade as though it held mystical properties.”

Sache’s eyes danced now in mischievous joy as she realized she had struck the right chord with the now crimson faced Sabe.

“So who is this elusive Jedi Padawan, who is nothing more then just a respecting friend?”

Sabe frowned as she closed her eyes trying to find her center. Sache as sweet as she was could be down right insufferable at times and this unfortunately was one of them.

“How many Jedi do you think I know Sache?”

The woman just shrugged her expression curious and obviously amused.

“I will tell you on the condition it remains between us only. I don’t even want Lady Padme to know, it’s bad enough your never going to give me rest I don’t need having the Queen and gods knows who else reading into this all wrong.”

Sache eyes turned eager as she nodded solemnly in reply.

“You have my word Sabe. You secret is safe with me.”

Sabe then raised a brow knowing Sache was renowned for keeping her word and holding secrets but in this moment it just didn’t seem quite enough and so she offered a smirk of her own.

“But there is another catch. Seeing as I am about to give you the name of an old friend, you have to tell me the name of the one who has caught your fancy as you admitted some months ago.”

Now it was Sache’s turn to blush as she gaped at Sabe in shock.

“That was a mistake. I’ve changed my mind since then. Besides it’s not like your being fair! I don’t even know your mysterious friend Sabe.”

“I wouldn’t say that Sache, but if you want to find out who it is you have to tell me who it is or was rather that had caught your eyes.”

Sache frowned as the conflict was evident in her eyes marking to Sabe that in the end her friend would cave in for her curiosity always got the better of her in the end.

“Fine. You win. But you have to swear that you won’t tell anyone either. Especially the person in question. It’s bad enough to knowing I was so stupid to fancy them in the first place without them learning of it.”

Sabe bowed her head in seriousness as she nodded.

“You have my word.”

“Very well. So who is your Jedi friend?”

Sabe fell silent for a moment her thoughts instantly drifting back to the early days when she was just beginning her duties as a decoy where as the young knight to be was completing his last days as a Padawan. A smile crept onto her features as she recalled how she first met him through his rather grand entrance.

“Do you remember when we were being escorted out of the Theed Palace by the droids during the initial invasion how there were two Jedi who had literally jumped from the balcony above us and killed our captors?”

Sache nodded her eyes beginning to dance as she pieced the information together.

“Quite the grand entrance if I recall correctly. So it was the older Jedi’s apprentice wasn’t it?”

Sache concluded as Sabe nodded slightly in reply.

“Well Jedi Kenobi isn’t a Padawan anymore obviously but yes, he was the one who gave me the braid upon his initiation into knighthood.”

Sache grinned at the words, for though she had never even spoke to the Jedi in question she knew of him well enough to put a face to the name.

“He was pretty handsome if I recall correctly. Though apparently he left a far greater impression on you then you had us believe!”

Sache said with a teasing smile as Sabe sighed deeply.

“Good grief Sache would you shut up! I already told you he was a friend nothing more.”

Sache only poked out her tongue in reply as Sabe made a face.

“Now it’s your turn Sache.”

Sabe stated with a wry smile as Sache blushed further.

“You really didn’t think I’d forget so easily did you?”

She added as her friend squirmed.

“No but I was hoping you would.”

Sabe only raised a brow as she motioned with her hand for Sache to hand over the blade to which the handmaiden does with a reluctant sigh.

“Fine…Fine. Remember you’re not to breathe a word!”

Sabe nodded.

“Of course not, but you better not forget either got it?”

Sache sighed deeply as she nodded as well before taking a deep breathe as she quietly began to pick at the corner of the sleeve of her gown. An obvious sign to Sabe that her friend was nervous or embarrassed although her glowing cheeks served as a dead give away as well.

“For the record I don’t like him that way anymore. He’s just too insufferable to even remotely regard in that light anymore. But at the time I didn’t know that so…well you know how it is.”

Sabe waited in patience for her friend to continue and after a long moment she quietly confessed.

“…It was, keyword being was, Soren.”

That shocked Sabe whose eyes widened now. That was the last person she’d ever expect her friend to admit to liking. Whenever they were together it was like a watching a ship crash, it was terrifying yet one couldn’t stop staring. She had never seen two people row so much in her life and it was always over the silliest and pointless things. If she didn’t know any better she’d almost swear they enjoyed fighting.

“You mean Captain Typho?”

Sache didn’t respond her cheeks glowing even brighter if that was possible but at Sabe soft laughter she finally muttered.

“I say I used to. I don’t like him like that anymore.”

“So I noticed! I always thought you hated him.”

“I do! I mean I don’t hate him literally I just can’t stand him that’s all.”

Sabe smirked but said nothing further as Rabe entered the room instantly marking the end of the discussion for both girls. If she noticed that both were blushing deeply Rabe was too polite to speak of it as she bowed to them her expression all business marking that the Queen was nearby.

“Sabe, Sache both of your presence is needed. The queen has requested you begin preparations for the coming meeting with the negotiations with the Separatists. As you already know you will be representing her for the first two of the meetings before completing your others tasks during the last two.

As for Sache because of Sabe’s current duties Queen Amidala saw it fit for you to join the Captain in the preparations of security for the upcoming arrival of our ‘guests’.”

Sabe tried her best not to smirk but the grudging dread that crept onto Sache’s features did a fine job of bury the nerves that always accompanied Sabe whenever she had to act as the Queen’s decoy. It wasn’t that she was afraid of her job and the risks involved but she was fearful of failing her highness and lately she found it was growing more and more difficult to hide the obvious fact that while they appeared quite similar in appearance Sabe had grown a lot taller since her initial days as Principle Handmaiden and decoy. It would only be a matter of time before she was discovered and the thought always filled her with fear for Padme’s safety.

But ever the dutiful handmaiden she only bowed and thanked Rabe before quietly departing as Sache frowned deeply and muttered under her breathe as to why the gods had to curse her in such a way that she’d be forced to work with the most annoying man in the universe.

Soren had never liked the Separatists and could not fathom why the Queen had agreed to have representatives of the Separatist movement to meet with her in the Royal Palace.

Not only was he in charge of the queen's body, but she had also instructed him to take up other security matters which involved doing some research on the specific representatives (which meant unofficial members) to find out who got along with whom and who didn't. It would be frightfully embarrassing on the queen's part if her guests were unhappy in any way, which meant he also needed to be prepared with the right food and beverages to cater to their desires.

This was Soren's most loathed assignment in the universe.

What made it even better, was the fact that Amidala saw it fit that his most favourite person in the galaxy, Saché Maberrie, was assigned to work with him as well. That just put a spring in his step as he trudged, begrudingly to the Security Centre.
She was not impressed to say the least. Of all the people who had to be assigned to Soren it had to be her. Even worse was the fact she had just freshly admitted to having a childish crush on him when he first started about ten and half monthes ago - not that she counted nor cared. Of course she was long over it now, any woman who could possibly find that frustrating man appealling was beyond her.

Sighing deeply she approached the door of the Security Center and prayed to the gods he wouldn't be there. But as she peered as subtly as she could into the large window to her right she found that much to her annoyance the gods didn't always answer prayers with a yes.

Groaning she rolled her eyes as she leaned her head agianst the front the door briefly before drawing back as she straightened the sleeves of her gown in an attempt to appear more calm then she felt.

'gods give me strength i'm going to need it.'

She muttered before quietly entering as she tried to keep her disdain out of her features.

"You summoned me?"

She stated simply bracing herself for the barrage of smart remarks that was sure to follow.
'Summoned you?' Soren thought as Lady Saché arrived. 'Not if you were the last person on Naboo.'

It was really a shame that she always had such a look of disdain on her face whenever they were in the same room together, for he had seen her on many occassions with her fellow handmaidens, smiling. She actually looked halfway decent when she smiled.

Soren shook the thought from his head as he said, 'You're late,' in a disapproving tone. 'I didn't realise it took Lady Rabé half an hour to relay messages.'
His chiding tone instantly grated her nerves and Sache instantly folded her arms as she balked at him.

"I'm late? I came as soon as I recieved the message. I'm so sorry that I don't have a hyperdrive to jump from the Queen's chambers to the security center."

She retorted frowning in disbelief. The nerve of this man was just boggling.

"Well seeing that I'm here now, care to fill me on the situation? Or do you just figure I'll absorb the information through telepathy."

She sarcastically replied.
Soren rolled his one good eye at her snotty remark and thrust a data card at her.

'Go on,' he said. As if it wasn't plain enough, he had to add, 'These are the bios and stats of the representatives. And this,' he said, handing of the other data card, 'are the available palace suites.' He folded his arms. 'Have fun.'

He then walked over to the security system which recorded everything from the various suites. The cameras were, for the most part, well hidden and only people like the queen would know where to look to cover them up. He planned on adding additional bugs to keep a closer ear on the Separatist representatives which the queen didn't need to know about.
She blinked at his rolling of his eye before practially yanking the data card from him as she made a face.

She scanned through the data card as he explained causing her to pause as she glared up at him.

"I do know how to read, Captain."

She stated in frustration before skimming over the details as she turned thoughtful. She hated to admit it but he knew his stuff and was good at what he did. But at the sametime it only made the need to prove that she was just as good in her field of work that much more. The thought of him thinking any less of her made Sache's blood boil though why she would still feel the need to impress him always seemed to evade her.

"Are all the camera's set in place and ready to go?"

She asked upon completing her study of the information provided.

Soren couldn't help it. He liked getting under her skin. When she was downright fed up and frustrated with him, her cheeks would get all red, her hair would threaten to come loose from the intricate updos Amidala required of her handmaidens, and her eyes lit up with a fire she normally kept locked away. It was almost as if he were closer to seeing the real woman behind all of the conservative, identical handmaiden garb.

Thusly, he was quite dismissive with her, just waiting for Saché to approach.

And approach she did. 'Of course they are, what did you expect?' he asked sardonically.
Surprised he didn't take the bait to her smart remarks Sache found herself strangely dissapointed. She found it amusing how he always lost his train of thought when he was angry. As though in his anger his cool arrogant mannerisms would strip away, leaving a less steely Captain and more of an actual human being. Though of course she'd never conciously admit the fact that she found the human aspects of Soren oddly endearing because that would mean she actually did find something about him to like. Which she didnt.

As she approached she asked what she thought was a simple question, a polite one at that. But his reply instantly set her on edge as it made her feel as though she were incompetent. Her eyes scanned over the cameras set and she furrowed a brow. It just didnt' seem like enough somehow.

"Are you certain this is all we will need?"

She asked in clipped tones.

"It looks like there are potential blind spots."

She remarked before pointing to a couple places, unaware of his plans to add more that only he would be familiar with.
He smirked to himself as she moved towards where he sat, but the smirk soon disappeared when she started pointing out where his failings were located. Of course she had to point it out.

Instead of being thankful for her being so astute, Soren cursed the fact she always had to one-up him. 'I know,' he bit back harshly. 'I've already made plans to install extra ones here,' he said, as if she should know, which of course there was no possible way she could know.

He hoped the remark about 'blind spots' was not a jibe about his missing eye. If it was, he would have to...well, he didn't know what exactly, but something.
His harsh reply was returned by a harsh glare.

"Well forgive me for trying to be helpful!"

She snapped back before falling silent as he explained his course of actions.

"But those weren't on the list of located visual security."

Her eyes widen as she realized his intentions.

"You weren't planning on informing the others of them were you? A means to keep watch when no one thinks they're being watched correct?"

She stated simply realizing that by doing so he would have the upper hand should there be an infilteration amongst their own ranks. The concept was brillant to say the least as loathed as she was to admit it.

"...Thats quite a clever idea..."

She muttured softly as for a moment Sache had forgotten herself as she studied the camera's closely her mind going over other small details.
Once Saché cottoned on to the fact he hadn't intended reporting that, he suspected she would berate him for it.

Then something unusual happened.

Saché...complimented him.

Soren didn't say anything in response, though a small, flattered smile crept onto his face. Not that he would ever acknowledge it.
Having realized her mistake Sache didn't dare look at him for fear perhaps he may have heard her mutterings. Her cheeks instantly lit up on fire and promptly she moved back shifting through the data pads as she inwardly balks at herself for actually saying that outloud.

Eager to move things along or rather ignore her blunder of a moment ago Sache noticed a name on the list that was in the process of becoming Sabe's new contact for her ruse.

"I noticed one of the members on the guest list is one of Sabe's contacts I trust this is going to be used to the fullest advantage?"

She remarked in clipped tones.
Of course it was straight back to being a pain in the ass. Why should it be any different? He wondered if she had even meant what she said before or if she was purposely trying to get his hopes up. Hopes? No, Soren didn't care what she thougth anyway!

'I haven't spoken to her about it,' he replied simply, not wanting to place Amidala's decoy in unnecessary danger. He didn't think Sabé's true identity had been revealed to that particular contact. If so...if they thought she was the queen...matters could worsen and swiftly.
She was careful to keep her expression nuetral lest he pick up on her embarressment although she was certain her burning cheeks would be a dead givaway. What was I thinking? She inwardly groused in confusion and agitation as she covered her tracks with more questions.

At his reply she furrowed her brow in annoyance.

"Why not? Shouldn't she be made aware of this?"

Yet as Sache once more tried to prove herself competent in the Captain's eyes something unusual had occured in a few of the monitor camera's. Though barely even worth a glance to the unskilled observer, but to one who was trained in such matters it is just enough to catch attention.

For though the empty corridor showed no change itself the timer in the top right hand corner that marked the hour of recording had changed slightly. At first it seemed to freeze for a few seconds before suddenly jumping ahead to the current time that matches the other timers on the other security cameras. Though it could be considered a small glitch in the system it could also reprsent the handiwork of one who is quite skilled in the arts of infilteration.
Saché was going on about something, but he paid her no mind. Soren's eyes were on the security vids.

Something caught his eye.

'We've got company,' he said, his hand moved to his blaster holster. He registered which floor and what area of the palace it was.

Someone was earlier and jamming the security cameras.

Without waiting for a response from Saché, he had his blaster out and was running for the turbo lifts.
She stopped dead in her tracks at his statement and raised a brow.

"What? What are you talking about?"

Sache stated whirling around her eyes on the visuals but seeing nothing of importance she motioned to the screen.

"Are you daft? Theres no one there!"

But he had already had his blaster drawn and was moving to the turbo lifts leaving Sache in confused frustration as the smaller woman chased after him.

"What are you doing now?"

Just perfect. Here I go off on some wild Gundark chase with a security Captain who seeing things that aren't even there. You're going to owe me big time for this one Sabe. She inwardly groused as she followed him to the turbo lifts.

As she promptly stepped inside the turbo lift she casting him a glaring look all the while catching her breath from the 'chase'.

"Okay care to fill me in on what is going on? Or do you just like chasing after phantasms."

She snapped as she brushed back a strand of hair behind her ear inwardly cursing the fact that already her elaborate braid was falling out.
Would the damned Turbo lift move any faster? Soren inwardly complained at Saché's round of questioning. It figured that she hadn't been paying attention to the security vids.

It did amuse him that she was panting since it took much more effort for her short legs to catch up to him.

Not to mention that intricate hairdo was falling down....

'The time jumped on the video. Someone is up to something and I'm going to figure out just what...' None of his men were on that floor.
Sache raised a brow to his clipped remark and couldn't resist wondering how a slight time difference would really be of any importance to them.

"The time skipped on one of the cameras? That could be anything, a glitch or a blurp from the computer. I don't see how this could possibly be regarded as a threat in security."

She stated in confusion and annoyance before leaning against the back wall of the turbo lift wishing it would move faster as well. Not that she'd ever admit to the fact that the lifts always made her uncomfortable. Or the fact she always had a lingering fear that one day it would get stuck or jammed and she'd be trapped inside of one.
'That never happens,' he hissed back. 'If something like that happens, it means someone is infiltrating our security systems.'

Soren tried not to look at her but he couldn't help it. She looked frustrated and...uncomfortable. Uncomfortable? He wondered why that was. But before he had a chance to ponder further, the lift stopped.

He didn't bother waiting for her as he head to the room in question. It was clear she hadn't got a clue about security technology and wondered why indeed she had been assigned to him.
Of course he was right Sache knew it almost as soon as he said it, but pride always did seem to be something that got in the way of common sense for her. Even worse was the fact it always seemed to only happen whenever he was near. She sensed his glance but stared straight ahead trying to ignore the fact she hated being on turbo lifts and even worse being on a turbo lift with him of all people.

Frantically she tried to think of some witty reply or retort but instead she found herself standing in frustrated silence with cheeks on fire and shifting feet. Why can't this blasted lift stop! She thought furiously thinking just how terrible this entire situaiton looked and how he now must think she is a foolish as an initiate on her first mission. Which I practically am she realized with even more embarrassment.

Finally she accepted (for now) that Soren was the more experienced of the two in this matter entirely. Having swallowed her pride Sache decided the best thing to do would be to lay low observe his actions and learn. That is until the lift stopped and she stepped out swiftly eager to depart from it. Then it was back to square one once more.

From the corner of her eyes Sache caught sight of movement down the hall and not paying attention to the direction that Soren was headed Sache slipped off after them. Unfortunately little did she realize they were but decoys who served as but watch dogs to distract from the real threat which was now in the room that Soren was headed for.

Drawing her blaster she promptly slipped into the shadows and approached her eyes foccused on the sight before her. There were two people both in the garbs of security although she didn't reconize either of them. Frowning she slipped away down a side hall and activated the commlink hoping it wouldn't be too late.

"...Captain, there are two personal here that I don't reconize as members of your security..."

She whispered naming the location where they were at and describing their basic appearance before commenting that one of them had a level 3 clearance override.

"...I'm going to move in."

She stated finally believing they had already completed their mission and were about to depart.

Meanwhile the engineer moved quickly and was pleased to say that her creation as small and virtually undetectable as it is was almost complete. That is until she recieved a message through the comm in her ear marking that two members of security had arrived.

However before the rest of the message got through the connection cut out and frowning she glanced over her shoulder instinctivally her hand now on her blaster. She could hear footsteps approach and moving quickly she completed the last connection and set the device into operation. Then rising to her feet she moved to the door pressed against the wall poised and ready to attack whomever may walk through the door.
Looking around the room which had been monitered and shown that the time skipped, he found nothing of consequence. When he turned to see Saché, he found she wasn't there.

That's when he was commed.

'What? Where are you? What's your location?'

But she said she was moving in. Without his approval!

'What in the name of the Abyss...' This woman would be the death of him. 'OK, I need to alert the Queen,' he thought aloud before comming Cordé. 'Lady Corde, Typho here.' He explained to her the situation, so that she could deftly relate the severity of the security breach to Padmé and Sabé before going after Saché.

Blaster at the ready, he tore down the opposite hallway. 'She can't have gone far... Saché? Saché, do you copy?'
The engineer felt her heart jump into her throat as she watched the security captain slip inside the room. She prayed to the gods she wouldn't be noticed for a brief second she wasn't. Moving quickly she slipped out of the room and moved promptly down the hall to the escape route that was chartered for her.

However despite her attempts to be useful Sache found herself recieving a borage of sharp questions instead. Frowning she promptly replied quietly her eyes never leaving the two 'scouts' as she did so. Deciding this was her perfect chance to show the Captain her skills and that she wasn't as foolish as he believed Sache announced her plans too move in. Promptly she closed the connection before having the chance to hear him curse.

Stepping forward the handmaiden slipped towards one and for the moment seemed as though she had the situation under control. With their backs briefly turned Sache moved quickly and soon placed her blaster to the back of the man nearest to her.

"I don't believe you have security clearance to be here. Care to explain?"

The second whirled around with their own weapon drawn and Sache couldn't help but feel a rush of fury as she noted his smirk. Something was wrong she thought just in time to hear Soren's voice come through on her commlink.

She was about to reply she had the situation under control when she felt a chill run down her spine as she could feel the cool metal of a blaster's barrel now pressed firmly against the back of her neck.

"That information is classified."

The clipped voice of the female engineer stated simply before politely adding.

"I'd advise you to lower your weapon. You are outnumbered after all and any rash decision on your part could prove detrimental."
Noticing quite a few faces that were unfamiliar to him, Typho commed for backup. Before the small group was assembled, he spotted Saché with a blast pointed at her neck. 'Brilliant,' he thought, 'just brilliant.'

The footsteps of his team grew louder as they drew nearer to him. He signalled to them to move in, surrounding this unknown officers.

'Drop your weapons!' he commanded.
The engineer was about to grab for Sache's weapon when she caught the Captain's command. While the other two immediately responded noting they were heavily outnumbered the woman with her back turned to them decided against aquiesing to his request and promptly whirled around to fire a shot at the captain and his men.

However this time Sache was prepared, having anticipated this course of action by the woman's paused hesitance she swiftly attacked. In a swift but graceful movement she knocked the weapon from the woman's hand and soon had her pinned to the floor with hands behind back.

It was only after her attack did Sache finally register that she had succeeded in her actions. The sight of the now apprehended woman brought a rush of pride. Who would have thought all those long hours of endless hand to hand combat training would have finally proved useful? She inwardly mused.
Typho dodged the blaster shot, seeing Saché seemed to have her under control.

The other security team memebrs quickly apprehended the other individuals and once their weapons were in their control, he demanded, 'Who are you working for and just what were you doing on this level?'

The man he question spat at his feets, refusing to talk.

'You will tell me,' Typho said fiercely, aiming his blaster at the man's throat. 'Who are you working for?'
